1937 EXTREMELY RARE AEROCAR 23
Famed aviation pioneer Glen Curtiss also pioneered travel trailers. He was not satisfied with the hitches of the early days so he developed the fifth wheel hitch for trailers.
He was a visionary who created a lavish "motor bungalow" and called it the Aerocar.
From "House of Cars" 1998 Smithsonian. "The Aerocar is sophisticated, streamlined and lightweight, & was a precursor of today's travel trailer. The company was formed in 1928 and existed until 1941."
In the 1930s, the Aerocar had several uses, but primarily it was a "toy for the wealthy." This Aerocar was owned by a wealthy woman in Northern California.
