In 2005 Chad was awarded the Merchant Marine Expeditionary Medal in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In 2006 Chad served as a Divemaster of the former nuclear weapons test site of Bikini Atoll.
Chad was employed as Port Captain to the NOAA Office of National Marine Sanctuaries until he was drafted to be the Vessel Operations Chief for the US Government on the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill crisis in the Gulf of Mexico.
In 2011, after the BP Spill, Chad joined Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution where he served as a marine operations coordinator for worldwide marine science missions aboard the R/V Atlantis, R/V Knorr, R/V Oceanus and R/V Neil Armstrong. Chad was also a member of the WHOI Diving Program and a former member of the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council.
