Take a Road Trip down Memory Lane with this 1991 Airstream Classic 350LE (luxury edition). This top of the line motorhome (Airstream Mfg #11321) was originally purchased by it's first owner in Langley, British Columbia on March 16, 1991. The current and third owner purchased the vehicle in Auburn, Washington on December 19, 2014. This RV has an "Antique Vehicle" Texas license plate and a clear title.
As with any Airstream top of the line RV, all the amenities are in place for your utmost comfort. The kitchen is equipped with a 4 burner stove, double sink, the original Quasar microwave/convection oven, "NuTone" Food Center components, and lots of cabinets and counter space. The original period-correct Dometic Model RM 3804 refrigerator was rebuilt in 2018 with a replacement control circuit board, and it operates dependably on 12V, LP gas, and 120V power. A second 120 volt Magic Chef 4.4 Cu.Ft. mini fridge sits in the living area. It replaced the original Dometic DN1075 automatic ice maker which does not work at the moment (original and a spare unit are included in the sale).
Sleeping options are aplenty in this coach. Guests can retire to the dinette sleeper or the powered sofa sleeper. The bedroom is currently set up with 2 twin beds. However, an alternative modification allows you to convert the twin berths into a center queen layout.
The interior and fittings are completely original. Although the carpet shows wear and needs deep cleaning or replacement, all other surfaces including Corian countertops, woodwork, slat blinds, soft furnishings, bathroom, commode, shower are all in good condition. The interior brass lighting fixtures, as well as the hardwood cabinets, are all original also.
All the utilities in this coach are operational. The LP gas operated hot water heater and twin furnaces are working correctly as is all water and waste storage tank plumbing and valves. In April 2015, both original roof-mounted air conditioning units with inside condensation drains were upgraded to Dometic Model B59146, 15,000 BTU units. So keeping cool is not a problem in this motorhome!
The original 30 amp power supply is in place. External 120V wiring was modified so as to run both air conditioners simultaneously when on shore power. A secondary 20 amp supply for the rear air conditioner was added and professionally wired through the front transfer switch. The transfer switch senses if the power comes either from the onboard generator or an external 20 amp supply and switches accordingly. The external 20 amp supply can either come from a dedicated 20 amp circuit or, on shore power, from a 50 amp "dogbone" that splits into two 30 amp connections.
If you happen to be off the grid, rest assured the original Onan 6500 Genset gasoline generator is ready to go. It has only 306 hours of operation.
The 12V and 120V electrical panel and fuses replace the original Heart Interface inverter and fuse board. A Xantrex Freedom 458 converter/inverter has been installed to replace the Heart Interface unit. However, to reduce complexity and to reflect mostly "on-site" use, an Intelli-Power 9200 series power converter with TCMS Charge Wizard interface has taken its place although the Xantrex unit is included in the sale.
What about that familiar Airstream exterior shiny shell? The exterior condition of the coach looks good and is watertight. However, some of the original Clear Coat finish has deteriorated around the upper areas near the roof section. The roof itself looks solid and is free from leaks etc. Sliding window seal rubbers have deteriorated and could use replacement. There is body damage on the edge of the battery storage compartment (front of passenger side rear tires - see photo). The battery box was replaced and new automotive and deep cycle coach batteries installed in 2019 (an aluminum front panel replacement is included along with the correct door latches and adjacent panel).
Jump in the cab area and let your eyes wander through the woodgrain dashboard and vintage gauges. The cab driver's seat has been re-upholstered, and the passenger seat is still in good shape with the original factory design. A Kenwood KDC-BT372U radio with CD, Bluetooth, USB, and Sirius XM capability was installed to update the audio electronics. The original backup camera and monitor, remotely operated spotlight, air horns, and auto-leveling jacks work well. New KwiKee electric entry steps were fitted in 2016. A new engine mounted AC compressor for the dash air was installed. However, a leak persists in either the front condenser or under dash evaporator and will need some work.
What about the engine? Let's talk about the rebuilt Chevy 7.4L 454 cubic inch fuel-injected engine. It was rebuilt in 2016 and has since recorded 3535 flawlessly (see the listing video to hear the engine run). On a recent 1800 mile tour, the engine operating temperature measured a consistent 200 degrees F. During the rebuild, twin electric thermostatically operated engine fans were added along with an original AC Delco clutch operated fan to improve earlier replacement of the engine cooling radiator. An oil cooling radiator was added and Doug Thorley THY-306Y stainless steel headers and a Spintech exhaust muffler were fitted. The throttle body, injectors, and engine sensors were replaced with a revised Spectre/K&N air intake and an upgraded Crane 134112 camshaft. An AC Delco "min-starter" replaced the heavy original unit. This is an excellent running engine, which has just completed a flawless 1800 mile tour during which the operating temperature measured a consistent 200 degrees F.
Work was also done on the chassis! Suspension issues were addressed including a rebuilt steering box and a Hyroboost brake booster. Ball joints and bushes were replaced, Bilstein shock absorbers were installed along with new front disks and pads, and Centramatic wheels balancers on the front axle. New rear Firestone Ride-Rite 2080 air springs were fitted as well as upgraded shock absorbers. Tag axle mounting bearings were retooled and six Samson GL283A tires were fitted in 2016 and have since traveled 3535 miles. However, the two tag axle tires are over 10 years old and should be replaced.
This 1991 Airstream Classic 350LE is still a vintage gem and ready for a new owner! Grab this stylish motorhome and keep the Airstream flag cruising through history!
Carpet needs a deep cleaning or replacement. There is body damage near the battery storage compartment. The awning is in good condition, but the support bars need some repair to become fully operational. In the rear bedroom, there is a 12V short circuit to the surround lighting and radio which needs to be addressed. Although the dash air conditioning has a new compressor, there remains a small leak in either the front condenser or under dash evaporator. All six coach tires have 2016 date codes and have plenty of tread. However, the two tag axle tires are over 10 years old and need replacement. See the description above for more info on work completed and/or needed for this motorhome.
